Transforming a Classic Pub: A Full Refurbishment Journey
We had the incredible opportunity to be part of a comprehensive re-fit of this charming pub, and it was truly a rewarding experience from start to finish. The pub, beloved by locals, had a lot of character, but its aging interior needed a fresh, modern touch to restore its warmth and appeal.
One of the standout features of this refurbishment project was the Solid Oak floor. While the floor had once been a beautiful focal point, over the years it had become worn and tired. The wood was greyed out, looking dull and lifeless, and the planks had become cupped from years of use. It was clear this floor needed a transformation to bring back its natural beauty and elegance.
Step 1: Sanding Back to the Core
We wasted no time diving into the restoration process. Armed with our trusted Hummel belt sander, we began the meticulous task of stripping away the old surface. Each pass of the sander revealed the oak’s true potential, peeling back layers of wear and tear. As we worked through various sandpaper grits, we carefully exposed the fresh, raw wood underneath, which had been hidden for so long. It was an incredible sight to see the oak coming back to life.
Step 2: Staining with a Rich Walnut Finish
Once the floor was sanded back to its bare wood, it was time to apply the stain. The client had a clear vision of the atmosphere they wanted to create — a warm, inviting, and homely feel that would instantly make guests feel comfortable. After considering various options, we chose a rich walnut stain that perfectly complemented the natural grain of the oak. The walnut brought a deep, luxurious tone to the wood, enhancing the overall charm of the pub and creating an elegant, timeless finish.
Step 3: Sealing the Deal with HT700
To ensure the floor would not only look beautiful but also stand the test of time, we applied three protective coats of HT700 — a high-performance, durable finish designed for heavy traffic areas. This not only sealed the walnut stain in place but also provided an incredible shine, making the floor shine with a satin-like finish. The HT700 ensured that the floor would remain stunning and resistant to wear, even with the constant flow of pub goers.
A New Beginning for the Pub
The result? A stunningly restored oak floor that’s both visually captivating and durable. This project was a perfect example of how a carefully executed floor restoration can completely transform a space, infusing it with renewed character and style.
